Founded in founded in 1727 AD by one of the supreme rulers of the Kachhawaha family, king Sawai Jai Singh, Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan and is popular by the title 'Pink City'. It is said that at the time of its construction pink colour was used to create an impression of red sandstone buildings of Mughal cities. The whole town was however repainted in 1876, during the visit of the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII to the town thus giving the place its title. Situated at a distance of 260 kms from Delhi and 240 kms from Agra, Jaipur forms a strategic link in the Golden triangle tour of Delhi-Agra-Jaipur.
