A singular characteristic of Alappuzha is a region called Kuttanad, that is also known as the 'Rice Bowl of Kerala', which is the only place perhaps where farming is done below the sea level. The Alappuzha Beach is one of the oldest Picnic spots in the area and the pier extending into the sea is about 140 years old. The Vijaya Beach Park nearby provides entertainment facilities making the visit of all the people there even more enjoyable. Alappuzha is a natural wonderland of Kerala state and is blessed with nature's green beauties such as lagoons, vast lakes and numerous fresh water rivers and water bodies.
