It is believed that Vasco Da Gama after traveling around the coast of Africa by ship landed on the Kappad beach on 27th May 1498 along with 170 men in 3 vessels. His arrival opened up sea route for trade between Europe, India and Malabar and this soon became the gateway of east.
Locally known as Kappakadavu, the beach is studded with rocks of all kinds, shape and sizes. A captivating feature of this beach is a sprawling rock that protrudes into the sea and has a temple on it.
