Varkala Beach

Situated at a distance of 54 kms to the north of the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala is one of the most deserted beaches in Kerala. Away from the noise and tensions of daily life, the beach proves to be an ideal haven for those in need of one. With palm trees swaying above and soft sands giving way to your feet, the Varkala Beach promises a rejuvenating vacation that will refresh your body and soul.

The Varkala Beach is popular for its Mineral Springs which are said to contain some medicinal qualities and can free people from ails and injuries. A dip in the holy waters of Varkala beach is said to cleanse the body and the soul of all the sins, hence giving this shore its alias name, the 'Papanashini'. At the break of dawn following the new moon in the Malayalam month of 'Karkidakam', thousands offer 'Vavu Bali', a ritual that is believed to help the souls of ancestors rest in peace.

Another added attraction of this place is a 2000-year-old temple of Lord Vishnu. The Shree Janardhana Swamy Temple is popular Hindu pilgrimage centre and is a major tourist magnet to the place. The Nature Cure Centre and a plethora of resorts and Hotels make Varkala a fascinating tourist destination in Kerala, South India.
