Munnar
Rated as one of the three best Hill Stations in the country, Munnar is a small place in Kerala, South India. Situated at an altitude of 1600 m above the sea level, 'Munnar' essentially means 3 rivers. Once the summers resort of the Britishers, the place is now a favoured tourist destination in all seasons. Munnar witnesses the merging of three mountain streams, namely, Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala presenting its visitor with an enthralling view.
Besides it natural beauty, the place is also popular for the numerous tea plantations that are there in the region and is also the dwelling of some of the highest tea plantations that exist today. An integral part of the triangular tourist circuit of Madurai-Munnar-Cochin, the place is enveloped with Tea and Spice gardens. An ultimate holiday spot for animal lovers and audacious people, Munnar is also home to the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, which towers over 2695 m and is an ideal spot for trekking.
Munnar is abode to abundant waterfalls, lakes, streams, green hilly slopes and valleys that all together act as magnet and attracts people from every part of the country to come and explore this natural wonderland. Munnar is also home to a large number of flora and fauna, amidst which the Neelkurinji plant from the Nilgiri hills holds prominence. The Neelkurinji is special because of its distinctive color and its property to blossom once in every 12 years. The nest bloom is due in 2006.
