Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
Sprawled over an expanse of 14 acres, the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary besides being home to some of the most rare endangered and unique wildlife is also a major tourist attraction in Kerala. Resting on the banks of Vembanad Lake in Kumarakom, the sanctuary is famous for its varied avian population. Famed as an ornithologist's paradise, the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is home to a large number of migratory birds.
Viewing the rare and unique birds, such as the Siberian stork, egret, darter, heron and teal are to name a few. Set within the lush green surroundings, the place is abode migratory birds from Himalayas to Siberia. Besides the migratory birds, the main attractions of the Sanctuary are the locals birds like the waterfowl, cuckoo, owl, egret, heron and the water duck. June to August is the best season for visiting the place but if migratory birds are your choice then months from November to February is the ideal time.
